Wow - A fun and exciting day for Reed Tennis players and their families under sunny skies at Loveland High School against a undermanned Erwin Squad - a fourth of their team were away in their role as thespians. The day's highlight game was the boys no.1 varsity doubles match up of Fernando Corona and Salvador Mercado against the Erwin no. 1 team. The one set game went on for more than an hour as the four boys battled through deuces in many games. Erwin took the game, but that was about all they took yesterday afternoon.
The other big story was Touchsada Janon and Courtney Chavez. They beat two Erwin varsity girls doubles teams and earned the spot of Reed girls varsity no.1 position. Brianna Dykstra and Ivy Ryan also beat the Erwin no. 2 varsity team 6 games to 2.
Since Erwin was short on players, Reed played Reed in a concert of close games and good sportsmanship. Isamaya Hagstrom and Madison Sheets beat the tough and undefeated team of Katya Hernblom and Alissa Hinojsa, just barely, 6 games to 5. Emma Maggie-Byers and Tennyson Norton held off Sofia Ozambala and Nicole Standiford in another close match. Then Crystal Gonzalez and Morgan Coulter won the JV division, while the team of Vanessa Romero and Sammi Hammond also came away with a win.
In boys varsity action, Cullen Britton and Jacob Norton won both their matches including another close marathon game over their own Reed rivals, Chance Lemus and Jack Kisch, 6 games to 4 and played right into dinner time.
Give congrats to the Reed Tennis team players; they played great tennis and showed good sportsmanship yesterday afternoon.
Next up is league leader Walt Clark,
this Thursday at Mountain View High School. We think Clark will be unpleasantly surprised by the Reed Tennis Machine, now in full swing.
